Net Zero Training
To support our members in their goal to voluntarily deliver Net Zero Homes to the market, CHBA has developed the training courses below for the Net Zero Home Labelling Program with the help of industry experts.
Only CHBA Qualified Net Zero Service Organizations can deliver these instructor-led courses, using CHBA Qualified Net Zero Trainers. Additionally, CHBA is developing online, self-directed versions of these courses to support broader uptake as industry prepares for the coming changes in the building codes.
REBATE PROGRAM
To help prepare the industry for future building codes, CHBA is conducting a 3-year (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2027) NRCan funded project called Enabling Tiered Codes – Implementation and Market Preparedness. To support the project objective of building industry competency, CHBA is pleased to offer rebates for select Net Zero Training courses during this project, where indicated below. Please note that funding is limited, and rebates/discounts will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
In Year 2 of this initiative (April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026) the incentives are as follows:
NOTES:
- Courses with an exam offer a rebate to those students who pass the exam.
- Courses without an exam include the discount in the price when students enroll.
- For the Net Zero Builder, Energy Advisor, and Renovator courses, only members receive rebates because the courses are required for the participant to receive a designation.

Advanced Building Science Training

This course is a prerequisite for the CHBA Net Zero Builder Training course. Since R-2000 launched in the 80’s we’ve learned a lot about best practice techniques, materials, and systems for builders to develop high performance homes - with the building science that underlies it all forming the critical foundation upon which we built our Net Zero courses on. In this course participants can learn from the experience gained from decades of constructing high performance homes from coast to coast to coast, including the “House as a System” approach to optimize for energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

Attendees will review the Net Zero/Ready design principles, equipment options, emerging technologies, and construction practices and learn to identify effective strategies to renovate existing homes to Net Zero performance levels. This course reflects the advancements in technology and innovations in the Canadian housing industry.

In this course energy advisors learn the latest developments on approaches to Net Zero/Ready homes with a focus on the best practices used in modeling these homes using HOT2000. Participants will enhance their knowledge of Net Zero/Ready design principles, emerging technologies, and construction practices and learn the skills to help their builder clients implement these strategies and meet the requirements of the Net Zero Home Labelling Program. Net Zero for Building Officials Training

CHBA's Net Zero for Building Officials online, self-directed training course has been designed to support building officials in understanding the requirements of the CHBA Net Zero Home Labelling Program (NZHLP), how these homes differ from ones built to meet minimum building code, and how builders and energy advisors are leveraging the Net Zero Home Labelling Program to optimize building performance, cost, buildability, and scalability. You’ll explore technical aspects such as wall assemblies, building envelopes and ventilation systems that underlie the Net Zero Home Labelling Program (and that meet and can exceed the National Building Code 2020 9.36 Tier 4 compliance).
